At LifeSquire we’re all about taking care of the details so our clients can live out their purpose.  They are a goal oriented and hard-working bunch who give the word hustle a whole new meaning.  But they are also very wise.  They know that it pays to be strategic in pursuit of your goals.

The following are some tips that will help you harness your hustle and work toward your goals most effectively.

 Have a clear vision

If you’re going to be working your butt off, you’ll want to be sure that all your effort has a specific focus so that it will propel you somewhere you actually want to be.  Start by answering some probing questions:

“How will you know when you have reached your goal?  What will be different or better?”

Based on your answers, write a clear sentence that encompasses your vison.  For example: My days will be spent sharing my knowledge, spending time with my family, and participating in yoga.

The next step is to break this goal into smaller sections.  Select a few areas to focus on and complete the following sentence:

“At the end of three months, I will have accomplished ____________.”

For the above example, you might aim for:
 -  Leading 5 business workshops
 -  36 dinners with family
 -  Attendance at 30 yoga classes

The specific goals are up to you, but it is important that they are measurable so you can easily determine whether or not you have met your goal. Write your goals down and put them somewhere you will see them frequently, and track your progress by adding a tick mark every time you attend yoga or teach a workshop.

At the end of three months, evaluate your goals, and set new ones.  You may have met your goals, you may not have, but you will have made significant progress.

If you’re overwhelmed after writing out your goals, don’t get discouraged. You don’t have to do this alone!  You are smart and capable, but you can’t possibly be the expert on everything.  Enlisting the help of others who have different skills, ideas and resources just makes sense.

If you’re working on fitness goals, this might mean hiring a trainer, or working out with a friend.   If you’re working on a business goal, you’ll need people with expertise you don’t have.  Find a mentor and connect with other business owners.

 Manage your time

When you’ve got a clear focus and know where you’re headed, time management becomes more simple.

Ask yourself: “Does spending time on this task/event/activity align with my vision and my goals?”

If it does, go for it.  If it does not, it probably needs to move down on the list of priorities or potentially even be taken off the list. If your goal is to spend more time with family and you find yourself missing out because of a committee you belong to, it’s probably time to prioritize.

There are likely some tasks that are in line with your overall goals, but that you either aren’t good at, don’t enjoy, or that just aren’t a good use of your time.  This is when we talk about delegating and hiring LifeSquire.  While the laundry has got to be done, it probably isn’t the best use of your time. A LifeSquire can take care of tasks like these so you can spend your time and energy on the things that help you reach your goals.

 Take care of yourself

You’re unlikely to complete your life mission if you’re exhausted, distracted and miserable.  So, it’s wise to include time for things that fulfill and energize you.  Is it prayer?  Running?  A night out with friends? Journaling? Legos with the kids?  Things that make you feel joyful and energized need to happen on a regular basis.

No one can sustain a constant expense of effort, and the quality of your work will quickly decline if you try.  Taking breaks throughout the day, taking weekends away, and doing activities that make you happy are a critical part of living out your vision.  You’ll do your best work when you are rested, happy, and able to focus.

So let’s review.  You are not going to hustle mindlessly.  You will create a clear vision so that all your hard work takes you somewhere you want to go.  You will collaborate with others and make the best use of available resources.  You will use time efficiently and cut out activities that don’t align with your goals.  And you will take care of yourself, ensuring that you’ll be at your best.

Congratulations, your success is inevitable!  Happy hustling friends.
